A beginner's guide to the chemistry of water (PDF, 1 MB)
Water is a very familiar material to students so it makes a very useful context to introduce primary and middle years students to basic chemistry contexts--particularly those concepts in the Australian Curriculum: Science Years Foundation-8. This paper explores how teachers can develop students' conceptual understanding using a range of teaching strategies including hands-on activities, role-playing and digital learning objects.
engaging school communities with tropical Science Discussion PAPER
This collaborative discussion paper focuses on initiatives and existing programs and the critical role of youth science engagement in meeting the inter-generational needs of tropical Australia. It forms part of the Tropical Australia Expert Working Group's response to the Inspiring Australia: A National Strategy for Engagement with the Sciences
report.
The role of the Tropical Australia Expert Working Group was to develop an effective science engagement framework for northern Australia that aligns with the Regional Development Australia (RDA) framework and the priorities of the
Office of Northern Australia in consultation with key regional stakeholders.
This Expert Working Group was chaired by Professor Peter Andrews, former Chief Scientist of Queensland and includes Professor Lyn Beazley, Chief Scientist of Western Australia and Professor Andrew Campbell, Charles Darwin University in the Northern Territory.
The Inspiring Australia report particularly targets the science communication needs of traditionally under-served groups such as those living in regional and remote areas and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
